ABOUT
The Vespertines have enjoyed a long association with the Maestros of New Capenna. Most of Velvet's family are vampires who front as successful art dealers and museum curators, when they aren't killing for the Maestros. Velvet's parents, better art collectors than they are assassins, have done their best to keep their youngest child away from danger.
Unfortunately, they raised a proud daughter. Velvet desperately wants to be inducted into the family business, but her parents say they'll only turn her into a vampire after she gets married and has children of her own. They expected to buy several years with this deal, as Velvet has never showed much interest in boys or dating, but they underestimated her determination. She pushed to be considered for a political match with Adrian Flyte, a scion of the Obscura family, and followed him to Strixhaven in hopes of shortening the engagement.

Velvet spent her whole life trying to be the perfect Vespertine—cool, competent, cutthroat—and this is the first time she's seriously considered her identity outside of that. Although she came to Strixhaven with the goal of getting hitched, she takes her responsibilities seriously, and is always seeking to promote Perfection's interests.
